Infant Frenectomies & Latching Support in Aberdeen, NC

If your baby struggles to latch or has been diagnosed with a tongue or lip tie, our team at Vista Dental Group in Aberdeen offers gentle, laser-assisted frenectomies to support better feeding and comfort for both mom and baby. We work closely with your pediatrician, lactation consultant, or speech therapist to ensure coordinated care and long-term success.

What Is a Frenectomy?

A frenectomy is a minor procedure that releases the tissue (called a frenum) connecting the tongue or lip to the mouth floor or gums. When this tissue is too tight, it can restrict movement, often referred to as a tongue tie or lip tie.

At Vista Dental Group, we use advanced laser technology for quick, precise, and comfortable treatment with minimal bleeding and faster healing.

Frenectomies are often recommended when:

  • Babies experience difficulty latching or feeding
  • Nursing causes pain or discomfort for the mother
  • A pediatrician, lactation consultant, or dentist identifies a tongue or lip restriction
  • There are concerns about speech development later in life

Our Treatment Process

The process begins with a thorough evaluation and consultation, where we review your baby’s feeding history, medical notes, and any concerns you may have about latch or comfort during feeding. When appropriate, we also collaborate with your pediatrician or lactation consultant so that everyone involved in your baby’s care is on the same page. If a tongue or lip tie is confirmed and treatment is recommended, we move forward with a laser frenectomy, which is a quick and gentle in-office procedure that releases the restrictive tissue with minimal discomfort for infants. Right after the procedure, we provide detailed post-care guidance, including gentle stretches and aftercare instructions, to support proper healing, encourage improved tongue mobility, and help your baby adapt to a new range of motion. Finally, we schedule a follow-up visit, typically 1 to 2 weeks after treatment, to check healing progress, evaluate feeding improvements, and answer any new questions, making sure you feel supported throughout the entire process.
